are dropping as the coldest night of the season sets in. right now it's 46 degrees in san francisco. and the temperature gauge is moving toward freezing. we have team coverage on this cold weather. ktvu chief meteorologist bill martin will show us which spots are the coldest but first to ken wayne in napa county where a freeze warning is posted for overnight, ken. >> reporter: julie, calastoga is one of the coldest places in the area. but as you can see from all the steam it's also one of the hottest spots. the water literally boils out of the ground at indian springs resorts bubbling to the surface at 212 degrees. it cools to 102 by the time it reaches this massive outdoor pool. >> you see where i'm at? >> reporter: these women traveled from the northwest coast to find refuge here. >> i am going to try to stay in the warm water as long as i can. >>> plumber ryan hermes was getting ready for a long night ahead. >> it's going to be a cold night. last year it was pretty bad. we had a lot of cracked pipes. >> reporter: he offers this advice, cover them or turn them off. >> that's what

the morning commute is looking good in san francisco off to a nice start approaching the downtown area. it's 5:00 let's go back to dave and pam. >>> at 5:00 we have breaking news coming in from campbell. firefighters just found a body as they rushed to an apartment house fire. janine de la vega is there. she's been there since 4:30 this morning. what is the very latest? >> reporter: the coroner is still here actually in the back of the apartment complex here on kiness drive. fire investigate evers are here on the scene trying to figure out how this fire started and who was the person who died here. at around 1:15 this morning residents at this apartment complex called 911 because they saw smoke coming from the carport at the complex. when they arrived firefighters discovered a storage unit under the carport was on fire. they distinguished it and opened up and found a body. police spoke to the owner of that storage unit and here's what the sergeant had to say. >> we have talked to the person who's belongings are in the storage unit. they are unaware of anything suspicious. they are unaware of a

last week. two san francisco police officers saved the infant's life by performing cpr and rushing the baby to the hospital. 39-year-old nicca gnash has been charged. >> the bay area is bracing for one of the coldest nights of the year. how the cold may actually help certain plants. >> reporter: right now we happen to be at fire station 2 in san rafael. their fire trucks are equipped with ski gees. they have access to high power water vacuums. this is how folks are preparing for freezing temperatures. at sunny side nursery, workers moved a couple thousand plants under an overhang. >> these are things that come in that we don't want it exposed to the freeze coming in. >> reporter: preparation here for tonight's freeze warning began days ago when these young citrus plants were moved out of the elements. >> this this has come out in the last couple of weeks. the tissue is soft and tender. this is the stuff that gets damaged. sounds like bill martin is calling for it to get down to 30 tonight, which below freezing but not real, not a killing frost. so people should be conscious of cove

. >> thousands of people started lining up yesterday in the cold, in san francisco, just to get a free holiday meal this morning. brian flores is outside glide memorial church. you've been out there since this morning. what's going on? >> reporter: a sea of people, at least a block long. thousands of people in line. some have been here as early as yesterday afternoon to get a free meal. every year, grace memorial church does this children where any give a bag of groceries for those who need it. this year, the church expects to give 5,500 bags of groceries. people have been in line hoping to get chicken, turkey, potatoes, pasta, beans and i many of -- and these items many of us take advantage of every day. many of these people with homeless. >> we see a lot of growing seniors accessing our services. it's doubling and tripling compared to years in the past. if you look at the demographics, the senior population is growing because the baby boomers are getting older and more people are getting on social security and disability as they reach the older years and they are really tight on money. >> re

mark, he's a comedian and also calls himself bald in scottish. he hit santa con in san francisco and handed out clown red noses and as you can everybody is smiling. >> doesn't wear a red nose. >> i don't think santa would have an issue because they're clowning around. >> oh. >> it's for a good cause. to bring joy and smiles to your faces. >> when you have the santa outfit on you're not the real santa. you're showing support to santa. he would be happy. >> look at the people on the streets of san francisco in their santa outfits with their noses. it builds this christmas spirit. >> no matter what kind of mood you're in if you put on a rudolph nose you're going to smile and giggle and your whole day will change. >> like us right now. grumpy. red noses. ah! >>> groups of girls partying in cancun can be a recipe for a disaster. this video is one of those. we have a group of girls here doing some sort of impromptu danceoff or some sort of steak dinner or something. details in this youtube description are a little weird. you see them here start the dance off. kind of not much dancing.
